About the Show
The Hebrew word for glory is “kavod,” meaning heavy or weight. The glory of God presses deep on our hearts and minds until His glory can be seen and felt in everything we do. This collection of artwork bears the marks of weight, prompting the viewer to meditate on God’s glorious redemptive story. Heavy textures combined with deep, rich hues carry this weight of glory. The viewer is encouraged to look deeply into every crevice and crack; in these broken and torn places is where the “kavod” is best displayed.
About the Artist
I am Kurt Caddy. In the simplest terms I am a follower of Jesus who paints and sculpts. I live near Springfield, Missouri. My creative impulse is driven by the Spirit and a longing for brokenness to be transformed into beauty. As a campus pastor, my experience with broken spaces and people would collide with my own brokenness and creativity to form the foundation for my artistic concepts. These concepts are stirring internally before paint is ever applied to a surface.
All creative process begins with brokenness; plant fibers are crushed and woven to make a canvas, and pigments are crushed to make paints. I often use extruded polystyrene as a substrate. It can be distressed, with tools, rocks, glass, even a torch. I take these highly textured and distressed materials and labor to bring beauty from it. These images are then transformed by layers of color into images of intense and vibrant beauty filled with symbolism, meaning, and mystery.
